Description
Pneumatic Down-the-Hole Hammer (2–24 Inch)
DTH Hammer is a pneumatic percussion drilling tool that transfers impact energy directly to the drill bit at the bottom of the borehole. This helps reduce energy loss, improve penetration efficiency and maintain straighter holes in rock drilling applications.
Our DTH hammer range covers approximately 2 to 24 inch, with multiple API REG thread connections and configurations available for water well, mining, quarrying, geothermal and large-diameter rock drilling.

Direct impact at the bottom of the hole
Six design advantages behind the pneumatic DTH hammer series.
01 / 06 Direct Bottom-Hole ImpactImpact energy is generated close to the rock face, reducing energy loss through the drill string. | 02 / 06 Stable & Straighter BoreholesDTH drilling is well suited to applications where borehole straightness and stable drilling are important. | 03 / 06 Wide Diameter RangeAvailable from small 2–3 inch hammers to large-diameter 18–24 inch and larger DTH systems. |
04 / 06 Multiple API ConnectionsDifferent API REG thread connections are available according to hammer size and drilling equipment. | 05 / 06 Efficient Air-Powered DrillingHigh-pressure compressed air powers the percussion system and flushes cuttings from the borehole. | 06 / 06 Custom System MatchingHammer, DTH bit, drill pipe and compressor requirements can be matched as a complete drilling system. |
Why DTH drilling is efficient
Compressed air drives the internal piston, generating repeated impact directly behind the DTH drill bit. Because the hammer operates at the bottom of the borehole, impact energy is delivered close to the rock face rather than being transmitted through the entire drill string.
Energy Transfer Impact Near the Rock FaceSince the hammer works at the bottom of the borehole, impact energy is delivered directly to the rock rather than being partially absorbed by the drill string. | Application Suited to Deep Holes & Hard RockThis working principle is one reason DTH systems are widely used for deep holes and medium-hard to hard rock formations. |
Used across water well, mining and large-diameter drilling
DTH hammers are widely used for water well drilling, geothermal drilling, mining drilling, quarry drilling and blast hole drilling. Other applications include foundation drilling, construction drilling, deep-hole drilling and large-diameter rock drilling.
01 Water Well DrillingEfficient penetration for water well projects in medium-hard to hard rock. | 02 Mining DrillingReliable impact drilling for mining and blast hole operations. | 03 Quarry DrillingStable borehole performance for quarry and rock extraction projects. |
04 Geothermal DrillingEfficient penetration for geothermal borehole and energy projects. | 05 Large-Diameter Rock DrillingLarge hammers available for larger borehole and deep-hole projects. | 06 Deep-Hole DrillingSuited to deep-hole projects where borehole straightness is important. |
Suitable Rock FormationsDTH drilling is commonly selected for medium-hard to hard and compact formations such as the following.
⚠️ Selection note: The final hammer type and drill bit should be selected according to: Rock hardness + Abrasiveness + Hole diameter + Compressor capacity + Drilling depth. |

Performance depends on compressor matching
DTH hammer performance is strongly affected by the compressor and the drilling conditions. Higher pressure generally helps improve penetration rate, while sufficient free air volume is important for flushing cuttings out of the hole. Insufficient flushing can cause cuttings to be re-crushed, which reduces efficiency.
01 Working PressureHigher pressure typically improves penetration rate in suitable formations. | 02 Air VolumeSufficient free air delivery is essential for flushing cuttings out of the borehole. | 03 Hole Diameter & DepthLarger holes and deeper drilling require more air volume and higher pressure. |
04 Rock FormationHarder and more abrasive formations require matched pressure and volume. | 05 Flushing RequirementsProper flushing helps prevent re-crushing of cuttings and maintains drilling efficiency. | → Before OrderingPlease provide your compressor pressure and air delivery. |
Matched components for reliable drilling
A complete DTH drilling system includes several matched components working together. Hammer, bit, drill pipe, rig and compressor must be matched for efficient drilling performance.
