Description
T2 / T6 Impregnated Diamond Core Bit for Conventional Double-Tube Core Drilling
The T2 / T6 Impregnated Diamond Core Bit is designed for conventional double-tube core drilling in geological exploration, geotechnical investigation and rock sampling applications.
Industrial diamonds are distributed throughout a sintered or infiltrated metal matrix at the cutting crown. As the matrix gradually wears during drilling, new diamond particles are exposed, allowing the bit to maintain cutting capability over its service life. T2 and T6 systems are available in several metric sizes and are used with matching conventional double-tube core barrels.

Self-renewing diamond cutting for double-tube core drilling
Six design advantages behind the T2 / T6 Impregnated Diamond Core Bit.
01 / 06 Impregnated Diamond MatrixDiamond particles are embedded throughout the metal matrix rather than placed only on the surface. As the crown wears, fresh diamonds are exposed, helping maintain continuous cutting action. | 02 / 06 Designed for Double-Tube Core DrillingT2 and T6 bits are designed to work with matching conventional double-tube core barrel systems. | 03 / 06 Multiple Metric SizesT2 and T6 systems cover a range of hole and core diameters for different geological and geotechnical projects. |
04 / 06 Matrix Hardness OptionsDifferent matrix formulations can be selected according to rock hardness and abrasiveness. | 05 / 06 Custom Crown & WaterwaysWaterway design, crown profile and matrix configuration can be customized according to drilling conditions. | 06 / 06 Self-Renewing Cutting PrincipleControlled matrix wear continuously exposes new diamond particles, maintaining cutting capability throughout the useful crown depth. |
Used across geological, geotechnical and mineral core drilling
T2 / T6 impregnated diamond core bits are suitable for geological exploration, geotechnical investigation, mineral exploration, rock core sampling, engineering geological drilling, foundation investigation, environmental investigation and conventional core drilling.
01 Geological & Mineral ExplorationCore sampling for geological mapping, mineral exploration and deposit evaluation. | 02 Geotechnical & Foundation InvestigationGeotechnical investigation, foundation investigation and engineering geological drilling. |
03 Rock Core SamplingContinuous core recovery for laboratory testing and formation analysis. | 04 Environmental & Conventional Core DrillingEnvironmental investigation and conventional core drilling with matching double-tube core barrels. |
Suitable Rock Formations
⚠️ Note: For harder and more abrasive formations, a matched matrix formulation and diamond exposure are usually required. |
How an impregnated diamond bit works
The cutting crown contains fine synthetic diamond particles distributed throughout a metal matrix. The controlled wear mechanism helps maintain the cutting capability of the bit throughout its useful crown depth.
01 Diamond particles contact and grind the rock. | 02 The matrix gradually wears. | 03 Worn or rounded diamond particles are released. | 04 New sharp diamonds become exposed. |
T2 metric sizes and dimensions
The following dimensions are cross-checked against common public T2 technical data. Actual manufacturing tolerances should be confirmed before ordering.

| T2-56 | 56.13–55.88 mm | 41.83–41.58 mm |
| T2-66 | 66.12–65.87 mm | 51.81–51.56 mm |
| T2-76 | 76.12–75.87 mm | 61.82–61.57 mm |

| T2-101 | 101.12–100.87 mm | 83.82–83.57 mm |
T6 metric sizes and dimensions
The following dimensions are cross-checked against multiple public T6 technical sources. A known erroneous T6-146 outside diameter value has been excluded.

T2 vs. T6 Diamond Core Bit
T2 and T6 cannot be treated as identical simply because they share a nominal size number. Their core diameters differ at the same nominal outside diameter.
| Feature | T2 Series | T6 Series |
|---|---|---|
| Core Barrel Type | Conventional Double Tube | Conventional Double Tube |
| Size Range | Smaller to medium | Medium to larger |
| Typical Models | 56 / 66 / 76 / 86 / 101 | 76 / 86 / 101 / 116 / 131 / 146 |
| Core Diameter | Generally larger relative to hole size | Smaller relative core diameter at same nominal size |
| Application | Geological & geotechnical coring | Geological & geotechnical coring |
| Crown Type | Impregnated / other options depending on system | Impregnated / other options depending on system |
Diamond matrix hardness selection
Different matrix hardness levels can be selected according to formation hardness and abrasiveness. The purpose of matrix selection is to let the matrix wear at an appropriate rate so that new diamond particles are continuously exposed.
Low Hardness Low Matrix HardnessSelected for softer or less abrasive formations where the matrix needs to wear faster to expose new diamonds. | Medium Hardness Medium Matrix HardnessA general-purpose option for a range of medium-hard formations and mixed drilling conditions. | High Hardness High Matrix HardnessSelected for harder or more abrasive formations where slower matrix wear is required. |
A harder formation does not automatically mean a harder matrix. Matrix selection should consider rock hardness, abrasiveness and the rate of cutting wear together. The goal is to make the matrix wear at an appropriate speed so that new diamond particles are continuously exposed — not simply to make the matrix as hard as possible.
Available crown profiles and flushing design
Crown profile and waterway design affect cuttings removal, crown cooling and drilling efficiency. Both can be customized according to formation characteristics and drilling method.
Flat Profile A general crown profile for conventional double-tube core drilling. | Semi-Round Profile A rounded crown shape for different formation engagement characteristics. | Stepped Profile A stepped crown design for specific formation and drilling conditions. |
Turbo / Segmented Profiles Segmented crown designs for specific penetration and flushing requirements. | Reinforced Crown Reinforced crown configurations for more demanding drilling conditions. | Customized Crown Shape Crown shape can be customized according to project requirements. |
Designed for conventional double-tube core barrels
T2 and T6 systems are conventional double-tube core drilling systems. The outer tube transmits rotation and drilling load, while the inner tube receives the recovered rock core.
Outer Tube Outer Tube FunctionThe outer tube transmits rotation and drilling load to the bit during core drilling. | Inner Tube Inner Tube FunctionThe inner tube receives the recovered rock core. This arrangement helps protect the core from direct contact with the rotating outer barrel compared with single-tube drilling. |
